Sneak Peek - Excerpt from Storm Warning - A Kelli Storm Novel

Here is a little teaser from my upcoming book. A word of warning, it does contain adult language, so you may want to ensure your children aren't around when your reading it.

Wednesday October 28th 9:12 A.M. Washington Heights
West 175th Street – Apartment of Xavier Mateo

When Kelli received the call, her first thought was that it was a joke, but the man on the other end was serious. With Diaz in jail, Xavier Mateo had taken on the role of leader for the DDP, and he sounded scared.
Kelli pulled up to the five-story tenement, parked and looked around for any signs of trouble. The street was quiet, a little too quiet she thought. She checked her Glock and stepped out of the car. As she stepped onto the sidewalk, she felt the bullet slam into her right thigh, the searing pain almost blinding her.
She instinctively ducked for cover beside the stoop of the building, drew her weapon and searched for the shooter. Her leg was bleeding badly and she knew she didn’t have long before shock set in. She pulled out her cell phone and pressed the speed dial for the Precinct.
After two rings, someone answered. “33rd Precinct Detective Unit, Lieutenant Cummins.”
“Boss, this is Kelli, I’ve been shot,” she said in a weak voice. “I’m at Xavier Mateo’s apartment building on West 175th.”
“Okay, you hang in there, Kelli. We’ll be there in five. How bad is it?”
She glanced down at the blood pooling beneath her leg. “Not that bad, boss,” she lied. “But you’d better hurry, I don’t know where the motherfucker is and he might try to finish the job.”
She heard him yell something and then he was back. “We’re on our way, just hold on.”
“Don’t worry, boss. I can handle it. Just get someone here before this fucker comes back,” she said and dropped the phone.
Her vision blurred and she felt the Glock drop from her hand. In the distance she thought she heard sirens, but couldn’t be sure, nothing seemed real. Moments later, she lost consciousness.
