Now that I've wrapped up the first draft of Deadly Storm, book three in the Kelli Storm series, I'm taking a break from it before starting edits and have had this stewing for the past year or so. I originally had the idea of Cal Jessup as being a small West Texas Sheriff, solving a murder in his quiet little town. After a trip to San Antonio and spending time on the River Walk, it hit me. I was sitting at an outside table at Waxy O'Conners, drinking a Guinness and watching the crowd. As I watched them struggle to make their way along the crowded walkway, I noticed one person in particular, and I said to myself, this is my serial killer. He was a young man, wearing a ball cap pulled down low over his eyes and carrying a backpack. I don't know why I chose this man, it just hit me. And the rest as they say, is history.
*Removed the sample, still making changes. Well, it is a work in progress.
